The Federation of Dutch Food Manufacturers (FNLI)and members are working to implement the Cluster Energy Stratgye as part of the Netherlands’ National Climate Plan.
By 2030, the Dutch government wants to reduce the Netherland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 5%, compared to 1990 levels, and a 95% reduction by 2050. These goals are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and the EU Green Deal, and are laid down in the National Climate Plan.
This plan includes specific roles for ‘Industry clusters’. The sixth cluster includes sectors such as food production, paper and ceramics.
The main objective of this sixth cluster is to develop a Cluster Energy Strategy. This strategy will bring future supply and demand of renewable energy sources together and provides insights into the accompanying infrastructure. Electrification or producing and using green hydrogen are all part of this energy transition. The strategy will help the government, energy network operators and other stakeholders to anticipate investments, subsidies and policy frameworks.
