Cocoa farmers and their communities face several complex challenges, including:
- Productivity: getting access to the best techniques and planting materials, including how to best combat pests and disease
- Environmental: climate change, aging trees, unfertile soil
- Social: limited access to education, gender inequality, fewer leadership roles for women
- Financial: poverty, lack of access to finance
Through Cocoa Life programme, Mondelēz’s global cocoa sustainability program, the company is helping to tackle these complex challenges that cocoa farmers face, including climate change, gender inequality, poverty and child labour. And in 2022, the programme celebrates its 10th year.
Cocoa Life is addressing these challenges on the ground, working hand-in-hand with the men and women who make their living from cocoa, focusing on where we can make a difference: turning cocoa into a business of choice, creating inclusive and empowered communities and educating on forest conservation and restoration.
By 2025, all Mondelēz International’s chocolate brands will source their cocoa through Cocoa Life.
