Addressing the phenomenon of unhealthy lifestyles, overweight and obesity requires a comprehensive approach involving changes in dietary habits combined with regular optimal physical activity.
Given the need for an individual approach and the consumer’s willingness to change his/her behaviour, education and information play a particularly important role.
In the Czech Republic, the food industry has been engaged in a number of educational programmes for adults and children, recognising the important role of parents in determining eating habits from an early age.
The industry has been educating Czech primary school pupils in the fifth grade under a special education programme known as ‘In the Rhythm of Health’, where the industry works closely with the Ministry of Health.
For fifth graders the programme offers a competition and students of other grades, the general public can use the program freely for their own education either individually or in groups.
